Volunteering and Committees
The Friends of Turnbull are always looking for individuals that would be
interested in volunteering their time toward any of the projects that FOT is involved
with. These projects range from the yearly tree planting outings to bird banding at
the refuge, to helping at the FOT Store (located on the refuge) and fundraising. The
following are the various committees that FOT has formally established to address the
needs and goals of FOT in regards to the refuge. Feel free to contact any of the
board members or the refuge directly if indeed you are interested in working on any
projects at Turnbull. Volunteers are what make the Friends of Turnbull a reality and
we are always looking for folks that want to help!
Advocacy & National Issues Committee: dealing with legislative concerns and to
keep abreast of the National Wildlife Refuge concerns through the NWR Foundation.
This committee also has the lofty goals of "educating" our legislators on various
refuge issues.
Bookstore: work on keeping the bookstore stocked with educational items and
staffing during weekend and fieldtrip hours.
Budget Committee: the committee goals are to develop the annual FOT budget.
Grants: search for and write grants to support the various funding requests
for the refuge, the Friends of Turnbull Endowment and the Environmental Education
program.
Membership Activities: develop programs for FOT members to become more familiar
with the refuge and other refuges around the Pacific Northwest.
Newsletter: to maintain membership lists and to correspond with new members and
to help create and contribute to the quarterly FOT newsletter.
Promotion and Fundraising: develop ideas for fundraising, a never-ending
necessity. This includes community outreach, membership drives, T-shirt sales,
etc. |
