Environmental Education The
Friends of Turnbull assist in supporting the environmental education
(EE) program at Turnbull. The program has been in existence since
the establishment of Turnbull NWR in 1937 and is now multi-faceted,
consisting of three long-term projects.
The Turnbull Field Trip Project provides trained facilitators for
spring field trips, guiding over 3,000 area school children through
hands-on, age specific environmental and wildlife education
activities. At least two Teacher Workshops are also provided. Fall
field trips are offered when funding is available.

The Outreach Project provides in-classroom activities for 3,000
regional students, and supports presentations and exhibits in local
fairs, libraries, and civic group meetings throughout the greater
Spokane and Cheney areas.
The Summer Activities Project responds to a wide variety of civic
groups, by providing tours, field trips, and nature hikes to over
700 scouts, retirement communities, and other groups.
